Strava has announced a range of new hiking-focused features in the application.
For route planning, Strava is introducing improved map styles that will show more detailed trail information, including surface types, trailheads, picnic areas, and campgrounds.
The company is also adding a new Route Saves feature that allows subscribers to save routes directly from various sections of the app. Existing subscriber-only tools such as Route Discovery and Route Builder are also being expanded.
On the navigation side, Strava is launching Off-Route Alerts, which notify users when they move away from a planned route. The app also adds route navigation on Apple Watch, smartwatch route syncing with compatible Garmin, Apple Watch, and Coros devices, and offline route access for subscribers. Other additions include a full-screen map while recording activities and live elevation tracking.
For sharing activities, Strava is introducing Activity Replays, a feature that automatically animates completed hikes in the activity feed for subscribers.
Other social features include 3D Activity Maps, sticker-style activity statistics, hiking clubs, and Flyover, a 3D aerial animation that recreates completed routes using elevation data.
As for the availability of the new features, most of them are available now, while the updated map styles are scheduled to roll out later this year.
