Sony Xperia M5 is finally available in the Philippines, just few weeks late from Xperia C5 Ultra release. Without much talking, we unboxed the dual 4G variant in black color (gold, white other options) and sized it up to the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua. Checkout our unboxing, first impressions, hands-on and quick comparison of Xperia M5 vs Xperia M4 down below.

First Impressions, Hands-on on Xperia M5
The Sony Xperia M5 is a close replica to its predecessor in terms of exterior design. Much of the hardware changes are found inside the device which we will tackle down below.
Going back to aesthetics, the same rounded polycarbonate frame, but now glossier, supports the all glass body (hopefully not a plastic anymore like as to Xperia M4). There are bumpers on corners which will protect the device from accidental drops.
Ports placement are still in tact while mono speaker still resides at the bottom, but now in the left side.
Both earpiece and mouthpiece strips are now thinner and repositioned near edges.
The 13MP selfie camera on Xperia M5 is a big upgrade from the 5MP. But the bigger upgrade is found on the back which is the 21MP Exmor RS main camera. Sony promises faster capture time, thanks to improve lens and newer sensor.
Flavoring the Xperia M5 is Android 5.0 Lollipop while utilizing the new Helio X10 chip from MediaTek inside. Paired with this new octacore chip is a 3GB RAM and 2600mAh battery. By numbers, the Helio X10 should bring more powerful performance but we will reserve further judgment on our comparison and review.
Sony Xperia M5 display has the same 5-inch IPS Bravia screen but sharper, thanks to bumped up resolution. Sony chose a 1080p screen for Xperia M5 (441ppi) which is a big upgrade from the 720p of Xperia M4 Aqua (294ppi).
Overall, the Xperia M5 is a big improvement from the Xperia M4 Aqua in terms of internal hardware. Design didn’t change much from its predecessor, but we are still looking forward for a greater experience on Xperia M5.
