Sony earlier unveiled the latest fourth-generation noise-canceling Bluetooth headphones, the Sony WH-1000XM5. It is the successor to the popular WH-1000XM4.

In terms of design, the WH-1000XM4 sports a sleek design with a soft fit new type of lighter synthetic leather on the headband, and microphones around the earcups. The design is not the same compared to its predecessor so the earcups can’t be folded but can rotate sideways.

For audio, it features a new 8-microphone system (four microphones on each earcup) with two QN1 audio processors that detect and lessen noise in your surroundings. Its new Integrated Processor V1 unlocks the full potential of HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN1. It is claimed to have better noise-canceling performance over its predecessor, especially in the mid and high frequencies.

A 30mm driver is also present with an improved high-frequency response with more natural sound quality.

Other features include Precise Voice Pickup, Adaptive Sound Control, Speak-to-Chat, Quick Access with Spotify Tap, voice commands via Google or Alexa, Multipoint connection, and the Headphones Connect app support.

Precise Voice Pickup Technology uses four beamforming microphones and an AI-based noise reduction algorithm to isolate your voice precisely.

The Adaptive Sound Control is a smart function that senses where you are and what you’re doing, then adjusts ambient sound settings for the ideal listening experience. It also learns your behavior and recognizes locations that you frequently visit when activated.

The Speak-to-Chat feature automatically stops your music and lets in ambient sound as soon as you start a conversation. The music starts playing again automatically once your chat is over.

For connectivity, it supports the latest Bluetooth 5.2 with a maximum range of around 32.81ft and it uses a 2.4Ghz band of the frequency range. In addition, the headphones also support LDAC with a maximum transfer rate of 990 kbps.

In terms of battery life, the device promises up to 30 hours of music playback time on a single charge. Up to 24hrs of continuous communication time with the ABC is turned on, while up to 32hrs if it is is disabled. The total charging time of the headphone is an estimated 3.5 hours.

The Sony WH-1000XM4 is priced at USD 399.99 (~PHP 20,961) and will go on sale internationally on May 20, 2022.
