Smart, TNT Warn Customers of Fake SIM Registration Scam

Smart Communications and TNT have issued a warning to their customers about a new scam involving fake SIM registration portals.

According to the companies, scammers are sending out text messages with links to phishing websites designed to look like Smart’s official SIM registration page.

Smart clarified that these messages are not from them and are attempts to steal personal information.

They reassured users that there is no need to re-register their SIM cards if they have already completed the process.

Also, scammers are now using hyperlink masking to disguise URLs by replacing dots with other characters like underscores or slashes.

The new SMS scam process often involves instructing victims to manually copy the altered address, paste it into their browser, and replace the special characters with dots before pressing “enter” or “go,” leading them to a phishing site.

Additionally, scammers are sending what appear to be IP addresses but are actually numeric clickable links.

It is best to ignore any fake SIM registration scam messages asking for re-registration. The official SIM registration sites are listed below.
