Samsung Working on GAIA AI Accelerator for AI PCs

Samsung Electronics is reportedly developing a dedicated AI accelerator for AI-powered PCs, according to a report from South Korean media.

The chip, reportedly called GAIA, is being developed by Samsung’s System LSI Business under its Device Solutions (DS) division.

The report says Samsung has already provided prototype samples to major customers and is aiming for mass production as early as next year.

GAIA is said to feature an optimized Neural Processing Unit (NPU) architecture designed to improve AI processing on PCs. It is reportedly being manufactured using Samsung’s 4nm process.

If the chip reaches mass production and gains market adoption, it could strengthen Samsung’s position in the semiconductor industry beyond its memory chip business. It would also expand the System LSI division’s portfolio beyond its Exynos mobile processors into AI PC chips.

Samsung has not officially announced the GAIA AI accelerator.
