Samsung Electronics and Google Cloud have announced a new partnership to bring Google Cloud’s generative AI technology to Samsung smartphone users globally.

The collaboration starts with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, making Samsung the first Google Cloud partner to deploy Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI through the cloud to their smartphones.

Janghyun Yoon, Corporate EVP and Head of Software Office of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, expressed excitement about the collaboration, highlighting the shared values of Google and Samsung in making technology more helpful and accessible.

Samsung is the first to deploy Gemini Pro on Vertex AI to consumers, offering a multimodal AI experience that understands and combines different types of information such as text, code, images, and video.

Users can enjoy summarization features in Samsung-native applications like Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard. Gemini Pro on Vertex AI also provides essential Google Cloud features, including security, safety, privacy, and data compliance.

Galaxy S24 series users can benefit from Imagen 2, Google’s advanced text-to-image diffusion technology, enhancing safe and intuitive photo-editing capabilities in the Generative Edit feature of the S24’s Gallery application.

The partnership also involves Samsung being among the first to test Gemini Ultra, Google’s largest and most capable model for complex tasks. Additionally, the S24 series will utilize Gemini Nano, an on-device LLM delivered with the Android 14 operating system, offering efficient on-device performance.

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, emphasized the significant opportunity for generative AI to create meaningful mobile experiences that enhance connection and communication for millions. With Gemini, Samsung’s developers can leverage Google Cloud’s infrastructure, performance, and flexibility to deliver safe, reliable, and engaging generative AI-powered applications on Samsung smartphones.
