Just recently, Qualcomm announced the arrival of the Snapdragon 820 and 430. On the same event, Qualcomm also featured their new charging technology for the Snapdragon chips, which will be featured on the new Snapdragon 820, as well as to the Snapdragon 617 and 430.
They dubbed the new iteration in their rapid charging technology, the Quick charge 3.0. Quick charge 3.0 is said to enable 27% faster charging capability on devices, in comparison to its lesser version, QC 2.0. The process is done, thanks to a few Algorithms that Qualcomm calls, intelligent negotiation for optimum voltage, which allows for selection of appropriate voltages, for each specific devices, while charging. The new QC 3.0 can scale from 3.6 to 20V in a 200mV increments and will work over USB’s, which also includes the new USB connector designs, like the USB Type-C.
QC 3.0 is available for vendors to be implented and its quite likely, we’ll see phones all around, with support from this new fast charging standard, mostly next year.
