Qualcomm has officially launched the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, a powerful yet more affordable chip built on TSMC’s 4nm N4P process.
Unlike the Snapdragon 8 Elite, this chip uses Kyro CPU cores instead of the newer Oryon cores. It has one high-performance Cortex-X4 core running at 3.2GHz, three Cortex-A720 cores at 3.0GHz, two more at 2.8GHz, and another two at 2.0GHz.
Qualcomm says this setup makes the CPU 31% faster and 39% more power-efficient than the previous version.
For graphics, it includes an Adreno 825 GPU, which offers a 49% performance boost.
It also supports features like hardware-accelerated ray tracing, Snapdragon Game Super Resolution 2.0, and Adreno Image Motion Engine 2.0, improving gaming and visuals.
The AI processor, called the Qualcomm Hexagon NPU, is 44% faster than before. The chip also supports the latest connectivity options, including the Snapdragon X75 5G modem, WiFi 7, and Bluetooth 6.0.
For cameras, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 can handle sensors up to 320MP and record 4K videos at 60fps, thanks to its 18-bit triple ISP.
