PLDT Inc., a powerhouse in the telecom industry, is actively considering the establishment of its 13th data center, with plans already underway for the 12th addition. ePLDT President and CEO, Victor Genuino, shared that this move hinges on the rising demand from enterprises for robust data infrastructure.
Presently, the primary focus is on completing VITRO Sta. Rosa, slated to be PLDT’s 11th and largest data center, by the second quarter of 2024.
Concurrently, the search is on for a strategic location for the 12th data center in the Metro Manila area. Genuino highlighted the importance of this area, ensuring essential utilities like power and water are readily accessible to clients.
Anticipated to be operational within the first half of 2024, VITRO Sta. Rosa is set to boast a total capacity of up to 50 megawatts, while plans for the 12th data center aim to double the capacity to a substantial 100 MW.
This ambitious expansion aligns with the growing influx of investments from hyperscale clients, including major tech players like Amazon, Google, and Meta, seeking robust data centers like VITRO Sta. Rosa to house their applications and critical data.
With the Philippine data center market projected to reach a value of $535 million by 2026, expanding at an average rate of 11 percent between 2021 and 2026, the country is positioning itself as a hub for hyperscale ventures. As the Philippines’ leading telecom provider, PLDT is aiming to elevate its data center capacity to an impressive 62 MW by 2024, a significant increase from the current 34 MW.
