Pasig River Ferry Service Rolls Out Free WiFi

The Pasig River Ferry Service (PRFS) has started offering free WiFi on selected ferry boats and stations through a partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

The service was launched at the San Joaquin Ferry Station in Pasig City by Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chair Romando “Don” Artes, together with DICT Secretary Henry Aguda, Vico Sotto, and Pasig Representative Roman Romulo.

According to the MMDA, the free internet service encourages more commuters to use the ferry system. The project is part of the DICT’s Free Public Internet Access Program (FPIAP).

Each ferry station and boat can provide internet speeds of up to 40 to 60 Mbps, while speeds during rush hours may range from 10 to 20 Mbps.

Free WiFi is now available at the following ferry stations:

  • Lambingan
  • PUP
  • Sta. Ana
  • Maybunga
  • Pinagbuhatan
  • San Joaquin
  • Hulo
  • Valenzuela
  • Kalawaan
  • Guadalupe
  • Quinta
  • Escolta

The ferry boats Mutya 1, Mutya 2, and Vicente also have onboard WiFi access points.

The MMDA also said more electric ferry boats and additional ferry stations are planned as part of ongoing improvements to the PRFS.
