US authorities have looked into the autopilot system of the company.

The recall notice says that in January, officials from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) met with Tesla to discuss their concerns about the “full self-driving beta” software.

NHTSA said that the system let people do things that could “violate” local laws or customs, like driving through a yellow light, going straight through an intersection from a lane that only lets you turn, or not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign.

NHTSA is telling the owners about this right now. The update doesn’t cost anything.

Elon Musk, the boss, didn’t say anything directly about the decision, but on Thursday, he tweeted, “The word “recall” for an over-the-air software update is wrong and out of date!”

The company has recalled its most advanced level of autopilot technology, the complete self-driving beta system, for the second time.

It costs $15,000 (₱826,650) in North America and lets the car respond to traffic lights and stop signs on top of things like cruise control and steering.

Tesla System 2022

Last year, Tesla had to call back almost 54,000 cars because the system let them go through stop signs.

The most recent recall affects Tesla Model S and X cars that already have or are getting the full self-driving beta software, and it also affects system-equipped Model 3 and Model Y cars.

Tesla stated that 18 warranty claims had been made about the problem.

The NHTSA and Tesla both say that the cars’ advanced driving features don’t make them self-driving and that drivers still need to pay attention.
