Unique Design

1Unlike the Reno 2, Oppo Reno 3 Pro doesn’t have a motorized pop-up camera, but instead a pill-shaped notch housing a 44MP main selfie camera along with a 2MP Depth Sensor. The Reno 3 Pro is the world’s first phone to feature a 44MP dual hole-punch camera. The back has a unique design, it is a smooth, chromatic, Polycarbonate plastic texture. It is prone to fingerprint smudges but putting a clear case will add extra protection. There is also an added feature on it by pointing out a light source the back will reveal a chromatic oil slick effect and there will be a fixed 3D line that leads to the camera module, it is unique and surprising at the same time. There are other 2 colors variants with different unique designs as well.

Build

On the left side of the phone, you will see the volume keys and a simtray which you can put 2 nano sim and micro sd card. On the right side is the power key with green neon looking line design. Underneath are a USB Type-C, main microphone, headphone jack, and speaker grill. On top is a sub microphone for surround sound recording. The back has a pretty large camera module compare to the Oppo Reno 3 non-pro version, it houses a quad camera and a dual-led flash, the large camera bump is more wobbly on a flat surface compared to the vanilla version.

Display

8AMOLED screens are the best factor in smartphone displays, a 6.4 inch Super AMOLED display at Full HD+ that was built in this device is a big check. You can get a crisp sharp display, but the downside is it doesn’t have a high refresh rate which is starting to become popular these days. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and 800 nits brightness level. You will get a better viewing angle outdoors and under direct sunlight. It has an under the display fingerprint sensor and a face unlock feature as well. Combined it with raise to wake feature and it will be a fast and seamless experience.

Quad Camera

7The camera is what’s best on this device, camera specs and features are versatile and flexible. One of which is the main camera with 64MP f/1.8, it was binned down to 16mp in normal mode but you can enable the 64MP mode in the top right corner of the camera app. Photos in both 64MP and 16MP don’t make much difference but the higher the megapixel the more details are retained.

Main Camera

Reno 3 Pro Sample Shots. Click the picture to view full-size images.

Ultrawide

2nd lens is an 8MP f/2.2, 13mm ultrawide lens, photos are sharp, vibrant but lesser contrast and less blue skies compared to the main lens.

Telephoto

The 3rd camera is a 13MP f/2.4, 52mm telephoto lens the photos at 2x zoom are still sharp and clear until 5x zoom. Going up to 10-20x zoom, the shot will start to introduce grains but details remain visible. 10X zoom is still clear and acceptable. but the best quality will be at 5X.

The telephoto lens can also shoot macros by zooming up to 5x up to 20x, the image is still decent and has reasonable quality.

Depth Sensor

Switching to portrait mode the depth sensor is doing great to blur the background. With the help of AI, the Bokeh enhancement feature is more detailed in edges around the subject.

Camera Features

14A massive 108MP photo can be enabled in expert mode and it is called Extra HD. It is processed using a sub-pixel interpolation. The quality is good but compared to the unprocessed photo at 64MP (left), the 64MP is better since the right photo at maximum crop looks overprocessed while the left photo looks natural.

Tripod Mode

There is also a Tripod mode that shoots a 30-second long exposure shot for low light situations. For comparisons here are the sample shot from a lowlight room

Ultra Steady mode / Live Bokeh6Oppo Reno 3 Pro can shoot up to 4k video recording, 1080p 60fps-120fps slow-mo, and a 720p 240fps. If you switch to video mode, you can enable the Ultra Steady feature, capturing up to 1080p 60fps. There is also an Ultra Steady Pro feature which captures 1080p 30fps. It is more stable than the normal one even when you shake the device intentionally but shooting 4k video will remove its stabilization feature. The device also has a real-time bokeh when recording both front and back thanks to its portrait lens that processes real-time live focus or live bokeh.

44MP Front Camera

Switching to the front a large 44MP f/2.4 camera is perfect for taking high-quality selfies indoor and outdoor. Beauty features can produce a sharp good looking self-portrait. what we like about the selfie camera of the Oppo Reno 3 Pro is that the contrast and shadows in the photos are deeper without losing too much details.

Portrait mode is great thanks to the 2MP depth sensor, edges on the subject separating the background are more natural.

The flexibility of cameras can compare to a DSLR, although large sensors mean better quality. But overall, sharpness and colors are accurate and true to life, what’s best about the photos are the contrast and shadows that give photo depth to make it more alive.

Performance

3antutu benchmark score of Oppo Reno 3 Pro

It is powered by Helio P95 octa-core processor with PowerVR GM9446 GPU supporting 8gb LPDDR4X ram and 256gb, UFS2.0 internal storage. Oppo Reno 3 pro supports HDR gaming experience thanks to its MediaTek hyper engine system. It features a higher frame rate with low latency gameplay for most 3D games. Asphalt 9 on the highest quality, We can say that it is smooth and lag-free. PUBG is playable but expects to have a stutter due to the unoptimized performance of the game itself. The device is a 4G LTE only but it offers a WIFI 5G so you can detect 5G wifi on your router. Reno 3 Pro is running in Android 10.0 right out of the box on top of it is the Color OS 7.

Battery

4Within these high-performance spec playing heavy-duty games in a 4025mAh will drain your battery much faster compared to regular daily browsing. Upon testing the device, consistent playing will drain your battery for about 5hrs. Using the phone normally will last for a day. The device supports 30W Vooc flash charging, you can charge the device from 0-100% in 50mins.

Audio

As for the audio, it’s a single down-firing type and easily gets covered by the hands while holding in landscape but it produces bassy surround sound and it is decently loud. It also has a 3.5mm jack for wired earphones.

Overall

2Oppo Reno 3 Pro is versatile, especially with its camera flexibility, mobile filmmakers will love it. A mid-range device that offers lots of features, it feels like a flagship phone. A 4000mAh battery with flash charge is an advantage together with a super AMOLED screen. This device will satisfy you in every way. Oppo Reno 3 Series will give you a premium feel and definitely worth the bucks. Reno 3 Pro is now up for pre-order in the Philippines for P28,990 while the vanilla version has an official price tag of P18,990. You can watch our full review video of Oppo Reno 3 Pro here.
