After several speculations about the OPPO upcoming flagship, the OPPO Find X was released this year with a full-screen design and a motorized camera.

Aside from that, this latest flagship is equipped with high-end specs and interesting features. Here, we finally get our hands to test the OPPO’s pride if it’s worth the hype.

The OPPO Find X features a glass front and back with a metal frame that is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It measures 156.7 x 74.2 x 9.4 mm and weighs 186g. Popularized with modern design and innovative features, the OPPO Find X is one of the few smartphones today with the motorized camera.

The back panel of OPPO Find X is a complete glass back with the purple or green gradient at the edge and the company branding at the middle. It doesn’t have a fingerprint scanner which is unusual, unlike the flagships that were released this year. The rear essentials were placed at the pop-up slider, it has the dual camera that houses 16MP + 20MP sensors and a 25MP front camera as well.

Physical buttons such as power button are placed at the right while the volume rockers at the opposite side. Moving on to the bottom, it consists of a speaker grille, USB Type-C port, microphone and the SIM tray.

Overall, OPPO Find X design is undeniably stunning and premium looking with the complete glass back and all screen display. However, there’s still a downside to this as it was slippery upon holding and prone to fingerprint smudges.

The OPPO Find X sports a 6.4-inch AMOLED FHD+ display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. This smartphone has Panoramic Arc all screen display.

Tall screen and vibrant display compliments with gaming and web browsing. In fact, OPPO has added a feature where we can customize the vibrancy for a better visual experience. Just go at Settings > Display & Brightness > Video Display Enhancement.

But without this enhancement feature, the display already produce a good color representation as we watched some video playbacks. We also tested the phone under broad daylight, and we didn’t encounter problems as long as the brightness were on a maximum level.

Since it has an all-screen display, LED notification won’t be available. That’s why OPPO has added this feature as an alternative to notify its user whenever there’s a message, calls or any activity where you can also customize its color. (Settings > Display & Brightness > Curved Panoramic Light Effect)

There’s also a Night Sheild feature which is a night mode version of OPPO where it emits the blue light to avoid eye strain. This is good for late night browsing and reading. (Settings > Display & Brightness > Night Sheild)

The OPPO Find X features a motorized camera that houses a dual 16MP f/2.0 + 20MP f/20 and a 25MP front-camera with f/2.0 aperture.

Despite the gloomy weather, OPPO Find X manages to produce a photo with good details and a vibrant that is almost close to its real-life color. The clouds are detailed and even in distance, you’ll notice that the leaves are sharp.

Same with the photo samples above, this photo still delivers a vibrant photo. It somehow looked like it went under editing with the right amount of saturation and sharpness. The details are still noticeable as expected for a flagship smartphone with a dual 16MP f/2.0  aperture + 20MP f/20 aperture.

Going inside, the photo still resulted in a sharp and detailed as what we can see on the lines on the chandelier.

The OPPO Find X also recognizes different scenes and objects. In here, the photo was not as vibrant and sharp as the first set. It also didn’t make the food more appetizing as expected for AI feature.

Going to the selfies, what we observed is the 25MP really does its job of delivering high-quality selfies. However, on the right side with added beauty mode, the subject looks unnatural and it is obvious that it was artificially enhanced which is actually a downside.

On AI portrait mode, the beauty mode effect automatically adds on the photo result which is an off for us. There are also different lightings that can be customized in this mode – natural light, rim light, face light, bi-color light, canvas light and local light.

OPPO also added some fun and cute stickers on their front-facing camera. You can be a cute bunny or an adorable panda with glasses. Or, you can also be a penguin and any other animals you wanted to.

Just like what I’ve mentioned earlier, OPPO Find X can recognize different scenes and object to automatically adjust its settings according to what is captured.

Features and Experience

The OPPO Find X is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 coupled with Adreno 830 GPU that carries 8GB of RAM + 256GB internal storage that runs on Android 8.1 Oreo.

This smartphone is packed with lots of interesting features, one of these is the OPPO Find X Game Space.

Gaming experience is more controlled and fun as well with this feature, as it optimizes the game and the phone. Also, it allocates the system resources, restricts the network access of background apps and answering calls or anything that will interrupt gaming will be prompted.

Media playbacks in this phone are also enjoyable with a completely bezel-less 6.42-inch display and a video display enhancement feature that OPPO added in this smartphone. As you can see, it improves the quality and presents vivid videos as well.

However, as indicated in the photo, this feature is only for local video player and selected third-party apps.

OPPO has provided us with more safety and privacy in Find X. The OPPO app store contains the apps that went under several inspections to make sure that suspicious apps won’t be allowed unless permitted by the user itself.

Keyboards also tend to remember some of the words we type, so to prevent that from happening, OPPO has developed a keyboard that secures and doesn’t record any personal information including passcodes.

There will also be for verification codes, screenshot and screen recording, and background recording of audio/images. With these, OPPO makes sure that these extra measures will help the user in protecting important and personal data from leaking.

Talking about the security, the OPPO Find X only has a face recognition to unlock the smartphone. For a flagship that is released this 2018, it is unusual that manufacturers create smartphones without fingerprint scanners. But OPPO is pretty confident that they included one.

The Full Screen Multitasking, from the word itself, lets you do a couple of things at once which mostly appears while gaming.

Its motorized camera feature may be the game changer as of today, however, its performance with face recognition is decent in that it also encounters hiccups whenever optical glasses were used. Nonetheless, it works in most cases such as low-lighting and not directly facing the phone.

We tested the OPPO Find X using the following benchmarking tools and here are the results:

Benchmarks OPPO Find X
Antutu 288109
Geekbench (single-core) 2346
Geekbench (multi-core) 8196
PCMark Work 9891

The OPPO Find X is fueled by a 3,730 mAh. It lasted for 27 hours of casual web browsing with light gaming and media playback to completely drain the phone. The handset took an hour to meet 80% all thanks to VOOC flash charge. However, it surprisingly took longer than expected as it fully charged in an hour and 53 minutes.

Battery 3730 mAh
Battery Life 27 hours
Charging Time (0-100%) 1 hour 53 minutes

Playing varieties of music and videos on this phone is really loud and clear at the same time. We also took the phone outside and it also played loudly.

Audio experience can be customized with Real Original Sound Technology, which was developed by the company itself and Dirac Research AB. It is stated in the description that it delivers original sound in full fidelity and creates a spatial three-dimensional sound arena to provide a listening experience that’s being at a live performance. (Settings > Sound & Vibration > Real Sound Technology)

The OPPO Find X is available in color – Bordeaux Red and Glacier Blue for a price of PHP 49, 990.

Pretty expensive, but with these innovative features, OPPO Find X is a nice phone that gives its user a high-quality mobile experience. Admittedly, not all people could afford such phone and some of the features could be found on cheaper phones. So if you’re on a tight budget, there are other good alternatives that could also give you a good and satisfying mobile experience.
