OpenAI has confirmed it is shutting down its Sora video generation app.
The company said it will discontinue Sora in both the consumer app and its API, but has not yet announced when the service will officially go offline.
According to their post on X, the company will share more soon, including timelines for the app and API.
In a statement, OpenAI also said the decision is part of a shift in focus, as the Sora research team moves toward “world simulation” work aimed at advancing robotics and real-world applications.
The shutdown also reflects OpenAI’s strategy shift after releasing newer AI models designed for professional use.
