OpenAI Introduces ChatGPT for Teens

OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT for Teens, a version of ChatGPT designed for users aged 13 to 17.

ChatGPT for Teens includes several learning-focused features, including Study Mode, quizzes, and Learning Visualizations.

Study Mode uses guiding questions and step-by-step support to help students understand concepts instead of simply providing answers. A new Responsible Homework Reminder can also detect when a student appears to be trying to shortcut an assignment and redirect them to Study Mode.

Teens and parents can also set Study Hours, which turn on Study Mode by default during selected times, and break reminders as well.

ChatGPT for Teens also includes age-appropriate safeguards to reduce exposure to potentially harmful or inappropriate content.

These protections cover areas such as self-harm, violence, eating disorders, dangerous activities, and explicit sexual or graphic content.

OpenAI is also expanding parental controls. Parents with linked teen accounts can manage selected settings, set Quiet Hours, and receive safety notifications. New notifications related to eating disorders are also being added.

OpenAI said ChatGPT should not use romantic language with users under 18, encourage emotional dependence, or imply that it has feelings or consciousness.
