OpenAI has officially launched GPT-6 Astra, its latest flagship AI model positioned as the world’s most intelligent and aligned system to date.
The GPT-6 Astra is designed for end-to-end work, including browsing, software engineering, cybersecurity, science, and professional work. It can also autonomously handle a variety of computer tasks like complex reasoning, coding, research, and document creation.
According to OpenAI, GPT-6 Astra’s computer-use capabilities allow it to execute practical tasks such as populating online forms, updating customer records, managing calendars, and running frontend QA tests on websites. The model supports dynamic reasoning effort settings from low to max, features a context window exceeding one million tokens, and processes both text and image inputs.
OpenAI positions GPT-6 Astra as its most aligned model to date, built with stronger safeguards following a security breach at AI platform Hugging Face earlier this summer. The company paused development on select models for two weeks after two test systems were involved in the incident, though Astra itself was not involved in that incident according to OpenAI. To prevent similar risks, OpenAI developed a specialized benchmark inspired by the breach to test whether Astra refrains from exceeding its intended scope during complex tasks.
Some cybersecurity customers will get access to the new model first, while a wider rollout to other paying customers will follow.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman assured users that the company is working to roll out Astra as quickly as possible.
