Design

The OnePlus 6T comes in a similar glass design with a metal frame as its predecessor, the OnePlus 6. In comparison, the 6T is a bit taller, thicker, and heavier with measurements 157.5 x 74.8 x 8.2 mm and weighs 185 g. Also, aside from the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 of the OnePlus 6, the company upgraded the screen protection to Gorilla Glass 6.

Looking at its front design, the notch on the 6T is smaller than its predecessor and it looks similar to the waterdrop notch of several OPPO handsets – the OPPO F9, OPPO R17, and OPPO R17 Pro.

Heading to its rear, you’ll see the dual rear camera setup with the flash underneath along with the OnePlus branding. You’ll also notice the absence of a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner on this one. And oh, this OnePlus handset doesn’t have a headphone jack anymore – which is kind of a downer for most, including me.

Display

The new OnePlus 6T sports a 6.41 inches Optic AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 402 ppi density, and with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection.

Its screen was bright enough and it managed to produce a good color representation when we tried watching some movie trailers. The color also doesn’t change when viewed from different angles. We also tried taking some shots outside and we didn’t have any issues with looking at the screen.

Unlike the OPPO smartphones with similar waterdrop-notch, the OnePlus 6T has an option if you wanna get rid of it. Just head to settings then go to Notch Display and tick the “Hide Notch” option.

Camera

In the camera department, the OnePlus 6T features dual rear cameras of 16 MP, f/1.7 + 20 MP sensor. For taking selfies, this handset is equipped with a 16MP f/2.0 front camera.

The daylight photos taken by the OnePlus 6T’s sensors came out good with great color representation and sharp details without the need of an AI instant post-processing. The colors produced by the OnePlus 6T looked really natural and vibrant as well.

The portrait mode on this device also works like a charm. The bokeh effect does not look artificial in any way and also has sharp edges to make the subject pop out of the background.

The OnePlus 6T has an option if you want the sensors to automatically capture with long exposure if a night scene is detected. The night shots produced by the 6T have great color representation and vibe. See for yourselves.

The OnePlus 6T can not only take great rear-camera shots but selfies as well. Similar to other Android handsets, this smartphone has a beautification feature (or face retouching as OnePlus calls it that way), portrait mode, and more. You can tweak theface retouching option to your liking but personally, I like my selfies to look natural and not beautified. As for the portrait mode, the bokeh effect is great too.

User Experience

Under the hood, the OnePlus 6T is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 2.8GHz octa-core processor with Adreno 630 GPU. It comes in two storage variants – 6GB/8GB ROM + 128GB of internal storage. This handset runs on Android 9.0 (Pie) OS.

First, going to the‘hide notch’ feature that was mentioned earlier. The notch has some pros and cons. Although it does provide a larger aspect ratio, the notch hinders the user from fully viewing the screen especially during movie watching and playing games. A lot of people are for it and against it so in order to cater to the latter, OnePlus has included a feature in their latest flagship that hides the notch. Note: this feature is also available on the OnePlus 6.

We also made sure to test the phone’s gaming performance. The games we played were Asphalt 9 and PUBG. Launching the games was quick and there weren’t any problems during gameplay as well. No lags occurred, the graphics are detailed and has smooth frame rates.

In regards of security, the OnePlus 6T sports an in-display fingerprint scanner and a face unlock feature. Both works incredibly fast and are also easy to set-up. In addition, the face unlock feature works even if the user is wearing glasses and even in dim-lighting situations. It’s also good to note that the feature doesn’t work if the user’s eyes are closed so you don’t have to worry about your phone getting unlocked when you’re asleep.

Going to its benchmark scores, here are the results:

Geekbench (single-core) 2391
Geekbench (multi-core) 8893

Battery

The OnePlus 6T′s battery isn’t that huge but a slightly bigger than its predecessor. The handset is fueled by a 3700 mAh battery and enjoys a 20W fast charging. Upon testing, the 6T can be fueled up within an hour from 0% to full battery, and the handset will last approximately a day and a few hours more of light gaming, medium media playback, and full web browsing.

Audio

In terms of audio loudness, it does not have the loudest mono speaker we’ve had our hands on but produces good quality audio even in maximum level. As mentioned earlier, the OnePlus 6t doesn’t have a headphone jack.
