OnePlus 6 vs Asus ZenFone 5Z: Specs Comparison

The Asus ZenFone 5 series including the ZenFone 5Z was introduced during the latest Mobile World Congress. As for the OnePlus 6, it just recently arrived in the Philippines this month. With the two devices having a lot of similarities on hardware specs, which of the two should you really buy? We’ll find out in this specs comparison.

OnePlus 6 and Asus ZenFone 5Z similarities

The OnePlus 6 features a 6.28″ Full Optic Full HD+ display which is only slightly larger than the Asus ZenFone 5Z’s 6.2″ IPS LCD display. This isn’t that much of a difference although the OnePlus 6 seems to have a higher resolution as well. As for their protection, both smartphones is supported by a Corning Gorilla Glass. The OnePlus 6 sports the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 whereas the ZenFone 5Z’s Gorilla Glass hasn’t been specified yet.

Under the hood, the two share a lot of similarities. Both seem to be powered by the latest Snapdragon 845 along with an Adreno 630 GPU. The two has three storage variants and has a maximum internal storage of 256GB. The OnePlus 6 doesn’t have a variant with 4GB of RAM unlike the ZenFone 5Z. Furthermore, only the Asus smartphone’s storage is expandable via an microSD card.

In terms of their camera setup, both devices seem to have dual rear cameras. The OnePlus 6 comes with 20 MP + 16 MP rear camera with a 16MP selfie snapper. On the other hand the ZenFone 5Z sports 12MP + 8MP rear cameras. The ZenFone 5 series is said to have an advanced AI camera so this might make up for the smaller camera specs. As for their front camera, the ZenFone 5Z has an 8MP selfie snapper whereas the OnePlus 6 has a 16MP one. OnePlus 6 clearly wins in this regard. Of course, we would have to actually make a camera comparison to know for sure who won.

Another similarity between the two is their battery capacity. Both is fueled by a 3300mAh battery also though they differ in battery type. The OnePlus 6 has a Lithium Polymer battery whereas the ZenFone 5Z has a Lithium Ion one. Both types have their own advantages and disadvantages so we can’t know for sure which of the two won in this regard yet.

An additional feature of the ZenFone 5Z that isn’t present on the OnePlus 6 is its dual speakers which might be a plus for some people.

The ZenFone 5Z is cheaper than the other by around PHP 1,000. After reading the similarities and differences between both devices, which of the two do you prefer more?
