A new version of the AirPods Max over-ear headphones is coming soon with some key changes. The update, slated for late 2024, will primarily introduce fresh color options and a shift to the USB-C port.
According to insights from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the upcoming AirPods Max won’t include the H2 chip or its associated features like Adaptive Audio and Personalized Volume.
Interestingly, it’s even suggested that the generation number might remain unchanged, echoing the transition seen with the USB-C AirPods Pro.
The significant alteration is the adoption of the USB-C interface, likely driven by European regulations requiring common charging ports for all portable devices by 2024.

This shift also aligns the AirPods Max with other Apple products already embracing USB-C.
Keep in mind that Apple’s plans could evolve before the AirPods Max’s release. Nonetheless, a late 2024 launch with USB-C charging and new color choices seems to be the most probable scenario.
In related news, Gurman also mentioned that all three AirPods models and various Mac accessories, such as the Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad, are expected to make the transition to USB-C by 2024.
This is a positive move, streamlining charging for Apple users with a more versatile and widely adopted standard.
