MediaTek has introduced the Kompanio 540, a new chipset designed for Chromebooks.
The Kompanio 540 features an octa-core CPU with two Arm Cortex-A78 cores, a dual-core graphics engine, and support for LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 storage.
It is built to handle tasks such as web browsing, video streaming, and school or work applications, with support for more demanding apps, including STEM tools, Tinkercad, and Minecraft Education Edition.
The chipset also includes a video decoding engine for smooth high-resolution streaming, even when connected to external displays.
According to MediaTek, devices powered by the Kompanio 540 can offer up to 35% longer battery life compared to other options, enabling full-day use.
Its power-efficient design also allows for fanless, quiet Chromebook models.
Chromebooks featuring the MediaTek Kompanio 540 are expected to be available starting January 2026.
