YouTube Updates AI-Generated Content Labels

YouTube announced changes to how AI-generated content is labeled on the platform, starting this month.

According to YouTube, labels for realistic AI-generated or AI-altered videos will now appear in a more visible position.

For regular YouTube videos, the label will be shown below the video player and above the description. For Shorts, the label will appear directly on the video as an overlay.

YouTube said the update is meant to make it easier for viewers to quickly identify content created or changed using AI tools.

The platform is also introducing automatic AI detection. If creators do not disclose the use of AI but YouTube’s systems detect significant photorealistic AI-generated content, the platform may automatically apply a label to the video.

Creators can still edit the disclosure if they believe the content was incorrectly labeled. However, labels will remain permanent for videos made using YouTube AI tools such as Veo and Dream Screen, or for content with C2PA metadata showing it was fully generated by AI.

According to YouTube, AI labels will not affect video recommendations or monetization eligibility.
