Google has officially announced the release of Android 17 Beta 1 for supported Pixel devices.
With this, users enrolled in the Android Beta Program can begin testing the next major version of Android.
Android 17 focuses on system refinements, performance improvements, and early feature previews. It also replaces the Developer Preview model with a new “Canary” channel, offering continuous updates and earlier access to new APIs.
Google aims to reach Platform Stability by March, when the final SDK and NDK APIs will be delivered. The stable release is expected later this year, followed by quarterly updates.
Camera and media enhancements include dynamic camera session updates and support for the VVC video standard.
Privacy and security updates include the deprecation of the android:usesCleartextTraffic attribute for apps targeting Android 17 or higher. Connectivity improvements and new companion device profiles are also included.
If you have a supported Pixel device, you can check and update your Android version to receive Android 17.

Google has not yet confirmed the full release timeline for the stable Android 17 update. More beta updates are expected in the coming months as development continues.
