3 Reasons Why the vivo X200 FE is the Compact Telephoto Flagship

Before 2024 ended, vivo launched the X200 smartphone in the local market. This month, it followed up with the vivo X200 FE, the brand’s first compact flagship in the X series lineup.

As we all know, vivo is quite known for smartphones with strong camera capabilities, but does the new vivo X200 FE stand out in the camera department as well? And what exactly does vivo mean when they say compact smartphone?

The First Compact Telephoto Flagship of vivo X Series

Let’s start off with its design and build. The vivo X200 FE measures 71.76mm in width, 7.99mm in thickness, and weighs approximately 186 grams.

In our experience, the device feels light without being flimsy. It is slim enough to easily slip into your pocket and during daily use, it’s comfortable to hold, even over long periods of scrolling, typing, or taking photos.

Speaking of scrolling, the X200 FE features a 6.31-inch flat LTPO AMOLED 1.5K ZEISS Master Color Display with FHD+ (1216 x 2640) resolution, delivering industry-leading brightness with a local peak of up to 5000 nits. It also supports up to a 120Hz refresh rate and 2160Hz high-frequency PWM dimming for reduced eye strain, while carrying SGS Low Blue Light Certification for eye comfort.

The X200 FE comes in two color options, Black Luxe and Blue Breeze. The unit we have is in Black Luxe. It’s built with Gorilla Shield Glass for durability and features an aerospace-grade metal frame.

The double-layered structure includes a diamond-cut aluminum ring and a glass lens. The back features a Metallic Sand Anti-Glare texture, which replaces the usual AG coating.

In our opinion, the device has a velvety matte finish. It’s resistant to fingerprint smudges, so it doesn’t require frequent wiping.

For added durability, the X200 FE also carries IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance. So, no need to worry about accidental water drops or exposure to dirt.

Flagship Imaging with ZEISS

Now that we’ve talked about the overall look of the device, let’s go onto the camera department. At the back, the vivo X200 FE introduces a squircle design, which is a mix of square and circle shapes.

To be specific, the device offers a triple rear camera set up of 50MP IMX921 VCS true color ZEISS main camera, a 50MP ZEISS super telephoto camera, and 8MP OV08D10 ultra wide-angle camera. Meanwhile, on the front is a 50MP JN1 front camera.

What are these cameras for? Well, the AI Telephoto Enhance feature makes zoom shots look cleaner and more detailed. We find this feature ideal for faraway subjects like buildings.

Below are some zoomed-in photos. As you can see, the images are clear, free from grain and blur. Colors remain accurate and pleasing to the eye. Even when zoomed in, the camera manages to capture details well without compromising too much on quality.omed in, the camera manages to capture details well without compromising too much on quality.

Apart from that, there is also a ZEISS Multifocal Portrait feature, which offers options such as 23mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, and 100mm. Take a look below at the photos taken with the different portrait focal lengths.

In our experience, the different focal lengths delivered bright and detailed results. As shown in the photo below, the camera was able to lock focus on the miniature subject quickly and accurately. Despite the small size of the figure, details remain sharp, and the background has a pleasing blur that highlights the subject well.

There are also multiple ZEISS Bokeh styles to experiment with, depending on the mood or look you’re aiming for. In our experience, the bokeh effect has just the right amount of blur, and the camera had no trouble focusing on the main subject.

The background blur wasn’t overpowering, making the result look natural. It’s fun to use, especially if you enjoy portrait-style shots, product photography, or even creating affiliate content, something that’s been trending among Filipino creators lately.

Now, if you’re into street photography, the vivo X200 FE also features a quick-launch Street Mode that you can activate by double-pressing the volume button, which we find helpful for catching quick and memorable moments.

The features do not stop there because it also has another one called Stage Mode, this will be useful for Filipinos who love nightlife and low-light events like music festivals. With this mode, the vivo X200 FE will still be able to manage to keep faces bright without washing them out.

And if you’re the type who likes editing after the shot, the built-in AI Image Studio lets you reposition subjects, expand the frame, or remove reflections with just a few taps.

Now that we’ve talked about the rear camera, let’s flip the device over and take a look at the front camera. As you can see from our sample shots below, the selfie results were satisfying. The tones appeared true to life, neither washed out nor pale. There were no blurry edges or noticeable grain, and the shadows were handled well.

vivo X200 FE Battery and Performance

Now with all the camera features, what about the other aspects like its overall performance? At the heart of the vivo X200 FE is the company’s self-developed BlueVolt Battery System, it is packed with a 6500mAh battery that supports 90W FlashCharge wired charging.

As mentioned, this device is compact. So, we’re quite satisfied with how vivo still managed to squeeze in the battery without making the phone too bulky and heavy.

Moreover, its 3rd-gen Silicon Anode Technology, delivers better performance and improved cold resistance, which makes it work reliably even at -20°C. Sure, that’s way colder than anything we’ll ever get in the Philippines, but if you ever find yourself visiting a colder country, you can count on your device, right?

For charging, we ran our usual test from 0% to full, and it took 59 minutes to fully juice up. On a full charge, the battery lasted 13hours and 47 minutes, which should be more than enough for a full day of use.

Inside, it’s powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ chipset, and it runs on vivo’s Funtouch OS. The UI includes some visual updates like new icons, always-on display options, dual clocks, and wallpapers.

And of course, there are a bunch of AI features not just for the camera. You get Gemini AI Assistant, Circle to Search, AI Screen Translation, Smart Call Assistant, and priority task scheduling.
