Chinese image sensor maker SmartSens has introduced the SC5A6XS, a 50MP flagship-grade camera sensor.
The sensor features a 1.6μm pixel size and uses SFCPixel technology to enhance light capture efficiency.
Built on a 1-inch optical format and manufactured using a 22nm stacked process, the SC5A6XS is designed to improve low-light performance by reducing read noise, resulting in cleaner image output.
It also integrates SmartSens’ upgraded Lofic HDR 3.0 technology, enabling it to capture a broader range of light and shadow details in a single frame.
The sensor supports up to 115dB dynamic range, helping preserve detail in scenes with strong contrast between bright and dark areas.
For video recording, it can handle 4K at up to 120fps, along with 4K 60fps with HDR enabled, while also delivering around 11% lower power consumption compared to previous designs.
Mass production of the SmartSens SC5A6XS is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026.
