The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) is fining Globe Telecom, DITO Telecommunity, and Smart Communications PHP100,000 per day over mobile broadband issues.
The NTC’s latest validation tests in September found that mobile broadband performance in several previously flagged areas had not improved significantly compared with its earlier tests conducted during the first and second quarters of 2026.
The affected areas include:
- Globe: Manila, Makati, and Quezon City
- DITO: San Juan, Pasay, and Las Piñas
- Smart: Parañaque, Manila, and Pasig
The NTC said it will conduct tests every two weeks in these areas to monitor whether network performance improves. It will also continue checking mobile broadband services in other parts of Metro Manila.
The regulator has the authority to enforce telecommunications service standards and require operators to address deficiencies under the Public Service Act.
The fines started on September 25, 2026, and the PHP100,000 daily fines will remain in place until the identified service issues are resolved.
