Last year, we got a chance to talk about the HONOR 200, which was a solid device with a reasonable price. Not to mention that one of the notable features of its predecessor was the telephoto lens.
However, this time, they took a different approach and ditched the telephoto in favor of an upgraded main sensor for the HONOR 400 5G.
And that’s why in this article, we are going to talk about the HONOR 400 5G and see if it’s a solid upgrade from its predecessor.
One of the best features of the HONOR 400 5G is its design. It is small and compact, which is slightly different from its predecessor.
At first glance, I thought this was a flagship device. It has a sleek, premium look that feels solid yet comfortable in the hand.
It weighs in at 184g, which is a bit lighter than its predecessor. It also has an IP65 rating, so it is quite durable.
Its camera module also looks different, and its back panel uses a glass material that has a smooth, matte-like finish that is not prone to fingerprint smudges, while its frame is made out of plastic.
Speaking of its frame, you will find the power and volume rockers on the right side, an IR blaster, microphone, and a speaker grille on top, and another speaker grille at the bottom alongside the USB-C port and SIM tray.
Design-wise, the HONOR 400 5G is an eye-catching device, although not in a flashy way, but more of how premium it looks. What I liked the most is its size. It is smaller than most devices in its price range.
Flipping over the device, the HONOR 400 5G boasts a 6.55-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1200 x 2664, paired with a 120Hz refresh rate.
It has a smaller screen than its predecessor, so you will find it easier to use.
Using it outdoors is also not going to be a problem, it can handle direct sunlight usage since it has a peak brightness of 5000 nits.
As for display quality, it offers accurate and vibrant colors with deep blacks. There are no visible color shifts when viewed from different angles. Taking a closer look, you also get thin bezels on all sides.
Now, for its cameras. Compared to last year, the dedicated telephoto is now gone, but its main sensor has been upgraded.
The HONOR 400 5G sports a dual-camera setup with a 200MP OIS main shooter and a 12MP ultrawide. The punch-hole on the front houses a 50MP selfie shooter.

When it comes to the quality of its rear cameras, it performs impressively with exceptional detail. It has good color saturation with superb subject-to-background separation. It also has a wide dynamic range with no visible deep blacks or harsh shadows.
Even without the telephoto lens, it supports AI super zoom, but the quality is not the best when compared to a dedicated telephoto.
Low-light Camera Sample Shots
Low-light photography is also great, especially if photos are taken in well-lit environments. There are no visible soft areas or noticeable noise.
Selfie Camera Sample Shots
As for its selfie camera, it captures decent daylight images with true-to-life skin tones, but it lacks autofocus and gets grainy in low-light conditions.
For video recording, both the rear and front cameras can shoot up to 4K@30FPS.
With the cameras out of the way, let’s take a look at its performance. The HONOR 400 5G is powered by the same 4nm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 found on its predecessor.
Our review unit comes with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Out of the box, it runs on Android 15, layered with MagicOS 9.
Using it as a daily driver, we never experienced any slowdowns on this device. It can handle heavy multitasking without any signs of struggling. It can also handle gaming, which is great, but for some graphically demanding titles, it may struggle a bit.
Benchmark Results
For its battery, the HONOR 400 5G is backed by a 6000mAh battery capacity, paired with 80W fast charging.
During our video loop test, it lasted about 14 hours and 45 minutes. As for charging, from 0 to 100%, it took us about 1 hour and 5 minutes.
As for its price, the HONOR 400 5G is priced at PHP22,999 for the 12GB+512GB configuration, which is lower than its predecessor, making it a better choice.
Overall, the HONOR 400 5G is a great all-around device that offers an impressive screen and strong camera performance with some notable AI features.
Although they could have retained the dedicated telephoto lens from its predecessor or opted for a better chip, all in all, I would recommend the HONOR 400 5G as it is a premium-looking device with some promising features.
