nubia V80 Design Review

we have a new affordable smartphone in our hand, which is the nubia V80 Design.

This phone resembles the iPhone 17 Pro, making it a head-turner. But other than what kind of features does this device offer in the current budget-friendly market? Let’s find out!

Design and Build

The nubia V80 Design features a flagship-inspired appearance that’s intriguing. It has a flat aesthetic with rounded corners, weighing 191g and measuring 7.7mm in thickness.

Its back panel uses a matte-like finish, while its rectangular camera module is placed on a glossy panel that is prone to fingerprint smudges. Its overall appearance is quite elegant and classy, and at the same time, comfortable to use.

Looking around its frame, you will find the volume rocker and power button that doubles as a fingerprint sensor on the right side, the SIM tray and the AI button on the left side, a microphone on top, and the speaker grille, USB-C port, and headphone jack are located at the bottom.

Display

Switching to its front, the nubia V80 Design boasts a 6.75-inch HD+ IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 1940 x 900 and has support for a 120Hz refresh rate.

For an entry-level device, using it for multimedia consumption outputs decent quality. It features slim bezels, giving us a wider viewing experience. This one is not a bad go-to option if you want to watch YouTube videos or use social media.

Camera

Moving forward to its camera department, even though it looks like it has a triple camera setup, it only has a dual sensor.

A 50MP main shooter and a 2MP depth sensor. The punch hole on the front sports a 16MP selfie shooter.

Using it for outdoor photography, it does capture decent images with good colors and sharpness. However, highlights are a bit inconsistent, and sometimes colors appear oversaturated.

Selfie photos are also decent; however, they tend to have fewer details.

When taking photos at night, you would have to stay put in order to capture a clear image. Quality is not that bad, but not good either. Flares are often visible, and there is some visible softness in the images. Although it does capture ample amounts of colors, it often lacks details.

When it comes to its video recording, both its rear and front cameras can only shoot up to 1080P@30FPS.

Performance

With the cameras out of the way, let’s talk about its performance. Under the hood, the nubia V80 Design is powered by a UNISOC Tiger T7280 and is paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

You can also extend your RAM via the settings up to another 12GB. For its software, this device runs on Android 16, slapped with MyOS on top. Upon setup, bloatware is visible but can be easily uninstalled.

It is not an ideal device for multitasking, but it is a decent device for day-to-day use. Stutters are visible when navigating the screen, which is quite common on entry-level devices.

We also tried playing Chaos Zero nightmare, and it delivered a decent performance with a bit of frame drops during our playthrough.

Here are some of its benchmark results.

Battery and Charging

As for its battery, the nubia V80 Design is backed by a 5000mAh capacity that is then paired with 22.5W of wired charging.

During our video loop test, it lasted us around 12 hours and 27 minutes. When it comes to its charging, from 0 to 100% it took us around 1 hour and 13 minutes.

Price and Verdict

Finally, it’s pricing. The nubia V80 Design is priced at PHP5,799 for the 4GB+256GB configuration and PHP7,299 for the 8GB+256GB model.

Overall, as an entry-level device, the nubia V80 design is a decent smartphone for those who are not looking for a gaming smartphone.

Yes, it is a reliable device for daily use, thanks to its decent performance. The only drawback would be its cameras and its gaming prowess. But other than that, the nubia V80 Design is a decent buy if you are looking to have an affordable yet stylish smartphone.
