SONY has unveiled a new camera sensor designed for smartphones, the SONY LYTIA L910.

The LYTIA L910 focuses on enhancing image quality under difficult lighting conditions. It is the first model in Sony’s LYTIA series to use the company’s LOFIC architecture.
The camera sensor features a 1/1.28-inch stacked CMOS sensor with approximately 50 effective megapixels and a 1.22μm pixel size. It can achieve a dynamic range of up to 100 dB from a single exposure. Rather than combining multiple exposures like conventional HDR methods, Sony’s approach captures all necessary image data in a single shot, effectively minimizing motion blur and flickering when shooting moving subjects or intense light sources.
This is achieved by pairing a LOFIC structure with Triple Conversion Gain HDR technology. By reading data from that single exposure across three distinct conversion gains, the sensor significantly improves detail preservation in both the brightest highlights and deepest shadows of a scene. According to SONY, this produces better-balanced photos with smoother tonal transitions by minimizing highlight clipping and lowering noise in dark areas.
Moreover, it also comes with an Ultra High Conversion Gain circuit technology, which improves charge-to-voltage conversion efficiency. This technology is claimed to reduce random noise by around 30% compared to the LYTIA 828 sensor, helping improve image quality in low-light environments.
Power requirements during image processing have also been reduced thanks to an optimised circuit design. This enables 4K HDR video recording at 60fps while maintaining high dynamic range performance. The camera sensor can shoot full-resolution 50MP images at up to 30fps and 12.5MP photos at up to 120fps.
Sony intends to start mass-production shipments of the sensor in summer 2026.
The vivo X500 series and the OPPO Find X10 lineup are expected to be the first to feature the LYTIA L910.
