Meta has unveiled the Meta VR Glasses at its Connect conference, made for entertainment, gaming, and productivity.
The Meta VR Glasses use a two-part design: the glasses and the computing unit. The frames house the display and sensors, while a tethered puck handles processing, storage, and power. Connected via optical cables, this external computing unit can be clipped to a pocket or stowed in a bag, enabling a significantly lighter, more comfortable wear.
The glasses sport a 5K Micro-OLED panel with 37 pixels per degree and support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos spatial audio. It also weighs approximately 100 grams.
Powering it inside is the Qualcomm Snapdragon Reality Elite processor, while the battery puck can play high-resolution media for up to 3 hours and charges at 45W.
The device also integrates Meta’s AI agent into the operating system, letting the user control it using their voice, eyes, and hand gestures. It can initiate media playback, open apps, organize desktop workspaces, and execute web searches. Users can also connect it to a Mac or Windows PC via USB-C, allowing users to pair physical peripherals like a keyboard, while its full-color passthrough keeps real-world desks and surroundings clearly visible while working.
Moreover, the Meta VR Glasses have an IMAX Enhanced certification and offer 3D Disney+ movies. The Disney Immersive Cinema by ILM app introduces upgraded VR experiences for Avengers: Infinity War and Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. It also supports Prime Video, YouTube, DIRECTV, AMC+, Crunchyroll, and Plex, while ESPN gets 8K live streams and a 180-degree view.
The platform will offer over 75 titles featuring controller-free, gesture-only inputs, with expanded streaming options accessible via Xbox Cloud Gaming. Additionally, Meta introduced holographic calls, which generate expressive real-time avatars that mirror facial movements and position with spatial audio.
The Meta VR Glasses will go official in spring 2027 at USD 1,299.99 (~PHP 81,050). Local pricing and availability details are yet to be announced.
