The Chinese company, Meizu, at the Mobile World Congress, did not present new phones BUT they did unveil the new Super mCharge that recharges battery faster than your internet speed.

Apparently, the Super mCharge claims to top up your battery in 20minutes. Such a bold statement, as the fastest record that we know, is the Mate 9 in one solid hour.

Rated at 11V/5A, the charger carries 55W of power compared to the 20W and 18W of VOOC and Quick Charge 3.0, respectively. GSMArena also added for comparison, a 25W from Moto’s Turbo Charger.

It’s quite alarming when a charger comes with that power – making it prone to overheating. But for Meizu, that’s not that case. Charging a regular 3000mAh smartphone only reaches a peak of 39°C, adding you can even play a game while plugged in.

So how is this possible? The secret solely relies on the data cable. It carries 160W of power with “more than 3 times the safety margin” –  including a voltage monitoring system, electric current monitoring system and a 10-level safety protection means.

The USB Type-C cable from Meizu costs three times the regular one but “highly effective in performance” boasting its 98% battery efficiency.

But what about the battery itself? How can it hold out from that much power? No worries, says Meizu. Battery remains over 80% capacity even after 800 complete charge and discharge cycles, which is equivalent to two years of usage.

With that being said, expect the technology to arrive within 2 years. Guess, not so fast now Meizu.
