The Chinese company Meizu is usually releasing mid-range smartphones for the masses. But for its latest announcement, the company launched the Meizu M17 and M17 Pro which are flagship devices. The price starts at CNY 3699(~P26K) for the glass-based M17 while the ceramic-designed M17 Pro starts at CNY 4299(~P30,600). Both with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The 8GB/256GB model of the former costs CNY 3999(~P28,500) while the 12GB/256GB of the latter will set you back at CNY 4699(~P33,500). Both, again, will become available in China starting May 11. While there’s a big chance that we won’t see the devices soon in other regions, we still think they are interesting devices.
The Meizu 17 series comes equipped with 6.6″ Super AMOLED featuring FHD+ resolution, 90Hz, HDR10+ support, and 180Hz touch rate with full support for DCI-P3 color gamut. There’s a small pinhole cutout on the display that’s measured 2.9mm, housing the 20MP selfie camera. Speaking of, both are using 64MP quad-cameras featuring Sony IMX686 sensor. However, the vanilla model makes use of 8MP ultrawide, 5MP macro, and 12MP for depth-of-field which is uncommon. The Pro model, on the other hand, is packed with 8MP telephoto, 32MP ultrawide, and 0.3MP ToF. On top of the sensors is a 5-LED dual-tone flash that’s five times brighter than a conventional LED flash on a phone. Video recording can reach up to 4K@60fps with EIS.
There’s no headphone jack on the Meizu 17 series but it does come with stereo speakers. The battery is rated 4500mAh with support for 30W fast charging, with the exception of Meizu 17 Pro featuring 27W fast wireless charging. At the core is Snapdragon 865 that enables 5G capability. Furthermore, Wi-Fi 6 modem is on-board. Meizu 17 features glass backing that comes in Green, Gray, and Aurora White while the Meizu 17 Pro sports ceramic backing in Mint, Black, and White colors.
