MediaTek is gearing up to unveil its latest flagship chipset, the Dimensity 9400, in October. This new system on a chip will leverage TSMC’s advanced second-generation 3nm process technology to enhance power efficiency and performance.
According to MediaTek CEO Cai Lixing, the Dimensity 9400 will offer a 40% improvement in AI performance compared to its predecessor, the Dimensity 9300, which has an AI performance rating of 48 TOPS.
The new chipset is designed to handle most on-device large language models, and MediaTek expects it to significantly boost their revenue, with a projected 50% increase year-over-year. The Dimensity 9400 will use ARM’s BlackHawk CPU architecture and will focus exclusively on performance cores, lacking power-efficient cores like its predecessor.
The chip is expected to feature a substantial die size of 150mm² and include 30 billion transistors. However, the higher performance may lead to an increase in the average selling price (ASP) of devices using this chipset.
In addition to the Dimensity 9400, MediaTek is collaborating with Nvidia on a new line of automotive chips, set to launch in early 2025. Nvidia will supply the GPU, while MediaTek will provide the CPU and ISP components.
This partnership aims to drive significant advancements in automotive technology from 2027 to 2028.
