Apple has officially launched the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Both models feature a 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture, marking the first time Apple has added aperture control to an iPhone. The camera uses six blades to adjust the aperture for different lighting and depth-of-field effects.
The Camera app also adds new Pro controls, letting users manually adjust aperture, shutter speed, and white balance. A histogram is also available for checking exposure.
For video, the iPhone 18 Pro series can apply Cinematic effects after recording at up to 60fps. Time-lapse recording now supports 4K and Dolby Vision HDR, while Audio Mix gets updated algorithms for clearer voices and music isolation.
Apple also introduced Apple Reference Image, which creates an unalterable reference version of a photo to help users check whether an image has been edited.
The iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are powered by the new A20 Pro chip, built on a 2nm process. It features a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU, and a 32-core Neural Engine. Apple says the GPU is up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro, while memory bandwidth is increased by 50%.
The phones also use a new vapor chamber cooling system with three times more surface area than the previous generation, helping improve sustained performance.
Battery life has also been improved. eSIM-only models offer up to 36 hours of video playback on the iPhone 18 Pro and up to 45 hours on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. The iPhone 18 Pro can reach 50% charge in around 15 minutes with wired charging.
Both models also feature a redesigned Dynamic Island that can display up to three Live Activities at once.
On the software side, the iPhone 18 Pro series runs iOS 27 and supports Siri AI, which will roll out in beta. Siri AI can use personal context, on-screen information, and content from apps such as Messages, Mail, and Photos to provide more relevant responses and actions.
The phones come in black, silver, glacier, and burgundy.
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at USD 1,199, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at USD 1,299 in the U.S.
Both models are available with 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB storage options.
Pre-orders begin September 12, with availability starting September 18 in select markets.
