Apple is preparing for a big change in its chip supply chain, with Intel expected to return as a manufacturing partner.
According to GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu, Apple and Intel are expected to reach a deal for Intel to produce some non-Pro A-series chips for iPhones starting in 2028.
This time, however, Intel would only handle manufacturing, not design. The move reportedly aims to reduce Apple’s reliance on TSMC, its main chip fabrication partner.
Apple also previously used Intel chips in Macs before switching to its own M-series processors.
Intel would supply only a small share at first, with TSMC staying as the primary manufacturer.
These chips would use Intel’s 18A process, described as one of the earliest sub-2nm nodes available in North America.
