HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 4 Review

We know it’s been a while since we last discussed TWS earbuds. So today, we are going to review the HUAWEI’s latest TWS, the HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 4.

It is one of the brand’s newest launches this year, alongside the Nova 13 Pro, which we reviewed previously. You can check it here.

So, with that being said, is the HUAWEI FreeBuds Prod 4 a solid upgrade from its predecessor? Read on!

Design & Build

First, let’s talk about the design. At first, we were a bit confused about the branding placement. We initially thought the front side of the case had the logo, but it was actually on the back.

The front only features an LED indicator, while the back has a glass-like square area where the HUAWEI branding is placed. The case itself weighs 47g, with a height of 46.9mm and a width of 65.9mm.

Our review unit comes in the white color variant, featuring a soft-textured case that feels comfortable to hand. It also has golden accents, adding a premium touch to its overall look.

The earbuds themselves also feature gold accents on the stems, which is a nice aesthetic touch. They are slightly thick and weigh about 5.8g per bud, but the build quality feels solid.

Additionally, the package includes multiple ear tip sizes for a better fit. The earbuds are rated IP54 for splash, water, and dust resistance, though the case lacks any protection.

Sound Quality & Features

When it comes to sound quality, the HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 4 delivers an exceptional experience.

The bass is rich yet not overpowering, ensuring clarity across different genres. The earbuds feature a dual-driver configuration with an 11mm quad-magnet dynamic driver, which maintains consistent audio performance regardless of the music type.

The Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) is also top-notch, effectively minimizing external noise. This makes it a great companion for those working in noisy environments or commuting.

Controls & Customization

Initially, we found the pinch controls a bit tricky to use since they are located on the sides of the stem rather than on the surface. However, after some time, it becomes intuitive.

To maximize the earbuds’ features, we recommend installing the AI Life app from HUAWEI’s AppGallery. This allows users to customize controls, adjust audio filters, perform ear tip fit tests, and manage noise cancellation settings.

The touch controls include pinch, tap, pinch-and-hold, and swipe for volume adjustment. There’s also a unique head gesture control—nodding to accept calls and shaking your head to reject them.

Another useful feature is the Find My Earbuds function within the AI Life app, which helps locate misplaced earbuds. Very convenient, right?

Connectivity

The HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 4 offers seamless connectivity, featuring an auto-connect function that works instantly when opening the lid.

They support Bluetooth 5.2 and have a pop-up pairing feature for HUAWEI devices running EMUI 10.0 and above.

Battery Life & Charging

Each earbud is equipped with a 55mAh battery, while the charging case houses a 510mAh battery.

In our tests, the earbuds lasted around 5 hours and 40 minutes with ANC on, and around 6 hours with ANC off. With a fully charged case, the total usage extends beyond a full day.

Charging time is also fairly reasonable—around 40 minutes for the earbuds and approximately an hour for the case.

Verdict

Priced at PHP10,999, we think the HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 4 is a solid upgrade from its predecessor.

Why? It delivers top-tier sound quality with impressive ANC and extensive customization options via the AI Life app. The only drawback is its battery life, which could have been improved.

For those in the market for premium TWS earbuds, the HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 4 stands as a strong contender.
