Google uses your profile picture in all of its products. If you prefer to keep your photo private, you can remove it from your profile. We’ll walk you through the process for your Google account.
We’ll also show you how to remove the image from Google’s archive, making it inaccessible.
Remember that the profile picture cannot be removed from Google’s mobile app. To perform the picture removal process, you must use a web browser on your Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook, iPhone, iPad, or Android device.
If you’re ready, open a web browser on your device and navigate to the Google Account site. If you haven’t already, sign in to your Google account.
Choose “Personal Information” from the sidebar to the left of the Google Account website.
There is a “Basic Information” section on the “Personal Information” page. Click “Photo” here.
Your current profile picture will be magnified. Click “Remove” at the bottom of this picture window.
If you want to change your profile picture without removing it, select “Change.”
A popup will appear asking whether you want to delete it. To confirm your selection, click “Remove” again.
Google will display a confirmation notice stating that your profile photo will be removed from all its products in a day or two. Click “OK” to close this box.
When you return to the “Personal Info” tab, you will discover that your profile image has vanished, and only the first letter of your name remains.
