How to Change the Highlight Color in Adobe Acrobat Reader

Want to use different colors to highlight text and text fields in Adobe Acrobat Reader? Perhaps the backdrop or text of your paper matches the default color. If this is the case, changing the highlight color is simple.

Change the Text Highlight Color in Acrobat Reader

To alter the color of the text highlight, first open your PDF document in Acrobat Reader.

Select the text you wish to highlight in the document. If you’ve already highlighted your text and just want to alter the color, pick the presently highlighted text.

We’ll choose some wording.

Right-click the selected text and choose “Highlight Text” from the menu.

The default highlight color is used by Acrobat Reader to highlight your selected text. To change the color of the selected text, right-click it and select “Properties.”

A “Highlight Properties” window will appear. Click the “Appearance” tab at the top. Then, in the “Color” section, choose a new highlight color. If you want to make the highlights more visible, adjust the opacity as well.

Activate the “Make Properties Default” option to make the newly selected color the default highlight color. Then press the “OK” button.

The text in your document now uses the newly chosen highlight color.

And that’s all there is to it.

Change the Form Field Highlight Color in Acrobat Reader

Form fields can also have their highlight color changed. To begin, launch Acrobat Reader. It is not necessary to have a document open.

Select Edit > Preferences from the menu bar in the Acrobat Reader window if you’re using Windows. On a Mac, go to the menu bar and select Acrobat Reader > Preferences.

On the “Preferences” window, in the left sidebar, click “Forms.”

The default highlight color for the optional and obligatory form fields may be set separately in the “Highlight Color” section on the right.

To alter the highlight color of the optional fields, choose “Fields Highlight Color” and enter a new color. To modify the color of the obligatory fields’ highlight, click the “Required Fields Highlight Color” button and choose a color.

Then, at the bottom, press the “OK” button.

You’re ready to go.

Acrobat Reader will now highlight objects in your documents using the newly specified colors. Enjoy!
