Honor Magic, Huawei’s ‘concept phone’ is here! But wait, what exactly is the ‘Magic’ here? Well, a week ago it was rumored to come with an edge-to-edge display on all sides, but that is not the main magic.

Before we get there, let’s have a rundown first of the design and specifications.

Nothing but curves

Huawei’s concept phone packs a 5.06-inch 2K AMOLED display with 3D glass covers found both at the back and front. Its curved design makes it similar to a rounded rectangle. No edges, just pure curves. The multi-functional home button gets rid of the back and overview keys by letting users touch, double tap, or swipe for these functions. The fingerprint sensor is still embedded on the home button.

Under the hood will be a SoC HiSilicon 950 Kirin 2.3GHz octa-core processor paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. 12MP f/2.2 dual lens will be utilized for the main camera while an 8MP f/2.0 sensor is installed for the selfie camera.

Honor Magic is running under Android Marshmallow 6.0 with Honor Magic Live and backed up by a 2900mAh battery.

Honor Magic Live

Honor Magic Live is where the magic happens. AI features can be accessed through Magic Live and it includes some key functions – WiseScreen Sensor, FaceCode Intelligent Recognition, and My Pocket feature.

When a user is going to use the phone, the WiseScreen sensor feature authenticates the hand’s and eyes of the user then turns the screen on. The screen will turn off if the user puts away the device.

In checking notifications, the FaceCode Intelligent Recognition should only show the notification messages to pre-registered faces.

My Pocket feature will let the users share videos, music, articles and more by swiping up from the bottom of the screen, and provides them the save and share button.

Some interesting features are also included like when you enter a dim room or dark place, the lock screen will automatically launch the flashlight, a long press on the home button will provide you information based on your activities, automatically switching the device to driving mode when it detects that you are actually driving and more.

The company also boasts its “special graphite molecular structure” of the battery, a new circuit process that charges the phone up to 40 percent within 10 minutes and 70 percent within 20 minutes.

Honor Magic basically wants you to do more but with fewer interactions through its AI features. Honor Magic will be available only in China for CNY3600 or ~$531 or around Php27,000 Philippine peso(before taxes).
