Google started rolling out Messenger RCS for some users

Google Messenger RCS is now rolling out

If you are using Google Messenger, we are glad to inform you that RCS(Rich Communication Services) is now rolling out for Google Messenger(US for the meantime). For starters, RCS basically adds SMS features that are similar to Apple’s iMessage.

Google Messenger, Not Allo

Google Messenger is the very first Google app to support RCS – it features enhanced messaging features, send read receipts, and show typing indicators.

In order for these to function, you need to require Google to turn off battery optimizations for Messenger for it to stay connected in the background.
