Google Play Services will stop supporting Android Gingerbread early 2017

Google Play Services next update will end the support for Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

The current version is 10.0.0 and by the time it hits 10.2.0 early next year, app developers would need to change the minimum requirement to Android 4.0.1 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread is almost six years old and since a lot of app developers stopped support for Gingerbread apps, this will allow developers to build better applications by using the newest platforms.
