Google has introduced Wear OS 7, the next version of its smartwatch platform based on Android 17.
According to Google, watches upgrading from Wear OS 6 to Wear OS 7 can deliver up to 10% better battery life for average users.
Select smartwatches launching later this year will also include Gemini Intelligence support, allowing users to access more personalized and proactive assistance directly from their watches.

One of the new additions is Wear Widgets, replacing the current full-screen Tiles system with more flexible widget layouts powered by Jetpack Glance and RemoteCompose.
Wear OS 7 also introduces Live Updates, which can display real-time information such as delivery tracking and ongoing activities directly on the watch interface.

Google is also preparing task automation support, allowing users to manage certain phone app actions from their smartwatch.
Another feature coming later this year is the Wear Workout Tracker, a built-in workout experience for fitness apps that includes heart rate tracking, media controls, and other exercise-related tools.
Google has not announced an exact rollout date yet, but the company said Wear OS 7 will officially launch later in 2026, with select upcoming smartwatches expected to ship with the update later this year.
