Meta has introduced Facebook Verified, a new free verification badge that shows a Facebook profile belongs to a real person.
The feature uses a short selfie video to verify a user’s identity by matching it with their existing profile photos. Meta said the process is free and usually takes only a few minutes.
To be eligible, users must be at least 18 years old, have an account in good standing, and follow Facebook’s Community Standards.
The feature is only available for eligible personal Facebook accounts and is not available for Pages or Professional Mode accounts.
The verification badge will appear on Profiles, Marketplace, Dating, and Groups. Meta said it also plans to add the badge to Feed posts in the future.
Meta said the badge only confirms that a profile belongs to a real person. It does not mean Facebook endorses the user or guarantees that they are trustworthy.
Facebook Verified is rolling out first in select countries before becoming available in more regions.
