Discord has announced a global rollout of “teen-by-default” settings, which will apply to all new and existing users.
This new setting is made to provide age-appropriate protections while maintaining user privacy.
With this upcoming update, users may need to confirm their age either through facial age estimation or by submitting identification through third-party partners.
The company is also introducing an age inference system that helps determine whether an account belongs to an adult without always requiring verification.
Discord stated that facial age checks are processed on-device, submitted IDs are deleted quickly, and age status is not visible to other users.

Users can view or appeal their assigned age group in their account settings.
Discord previously tested similar settings in the UK and Australia. The company says this global rollout expands that approach to all regions.
The update will begin rolling out in phases starting early March 2026.
