Digital National ID Considered as Printing Delay Continues

Digital National ID

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said Wednesday that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was frustrated about the time it took to print and hand out national ID cards.

They are also making a digital version of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) card that will be given out by December of this year, according to him.

He said the President did not issue any ultimatum but instead presented the idea of an alternative digital ID.

Arsenio Balisacan, who is the secretary of socioeconomic planning, said in August that the DICT would be in charge of making the e-PhilIDs.

The Philippine Statistics Authority is “working on the production of the physical ID,” Uy said, and the DICT will work on the digital version of the national ID at the same time.

There is currently no defined timetable for the distribution of the physical IDs.
