Tim Cook has officially confirmed what industry watchers and Apple fans have suspected for some time now: Apple has been collaborating with Sony for the better of a decade. Apple’s CEO shared a snapshot on social media that showed him being shown around a Sony facility by Sony’s CEO, Kenichiro Yoshida.
The Cupertino-based corporation could be more outspoken about its battery, chip, or display suppliers. However, supply chain experts have disclosed that Corning is the company that makes Apple’s front and back glass sheets, while Samsung and LG are the companies that supply the majority of OLED panels. TSMC’s fabs are the apparent source of chips in the industry.
Nevertheless, the Sony-Apple arrangement for camera gear still needs to be made more explicit, and from all indications, it will continue for a while. Several publications show Sony is reportedly working on a new sensor using semiconductor technologies. This sensor will reportedly let in lighter and reduce the likelihood of either underexposure or overexposure. There is no question that Apple’s next-generation iPhones will include that sensor.
