In a statement, Bataan’s Governor, Hon. Jose Enrique S. Garcia III announced in a recent 2022 Climate Change and Sustainability Summit that the mothballed Bataan Nuclear Power Plant will be the Philippines’ most important data center.
Greg Refraction of 1Bataan reports that the Governor of Bataan reiterated the standing of the Provincial Government of Bataan. Instead of reviving the 40-year-old nuclear power plant, it would be more appropriate to convert BNPP (Bataan Nuclear Power Plant) into a Cloud Computing Facility, which will serve as the largest data center in the country.
A significant reason for BNPP’s conversion to a Data Center is its highly secure structure and its provision for water cooling, which is crucial for a Data Center.
According to Garcia, the government is considering small and modular reactors, which are becoming more common in Western countries, and have a lower buffer zone than regular nuclear power plants.
A Toyota Corolla model was cited as an example by Bataan’s Governor: “If you’ll choose a 1985 model vs. a 2022 Toyota Corolla model, which do you prefer?”
Like BNPP, an old model, we’ll choose the most current model, which has the latest technology and updated safety gear. Based on the latest trends in nuclear energy, we will also select a new structure that meets the latest safety standards and technology.
