Apple is reportedly gearing up for its first foldable iPhone, which is expected to launch in 2026.
According to a report from Medium, the foldable will adopt a book-style design, featuring a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch outer screen.
The foldable iPhone will focus on AI-driven functionality, emphasizing multimodal capabilities and cross-app integration, Medium report stated.
A larger screen will enhance AI interactions, such as viewing maps while chatting with an AI assistant.
However, Face ID may be absent and instead a Touch ID is expected to be integrated into the side button.
The device will be 9–9.5mm thick when folded and 4.5–4.8mm when unfolded.
According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple plans to use a hinge made from stainless steel and titanium alloy, with a titanium alloy casing. It will also incorporate high-density battery cells similar to those in the ultra-thin iPhone 17.
The final specifications are expected to be finalized by the second quarter of 2025, with mass production starting in late 2026.
