Apple Releases iOS 27 Beta 3 for Developers

Apple has released iOS 27 Beta 3 and iPadOS 27 Beta 3 for developers.

One of the notable fixes addresses a problem where iPhones with a deeply discharged battery could remain stuck on the red battery screen. Apple says affected devices should now boot normally after charging.

The update also adds several new features. Dictation now includes an optional on-device model called Advanced Dictation Preview, which aims to improve speech recognition accuracy.

HealthKit gains support for heart rate zones, cycling power zones, and new menopause-related health data.

For developers, Apple introduced improvements to Core AI, SwiftUI, StoreKit, UIKit, and other frameworks. Background access to the Neural Engine now requires a new entitlement, while AsyncImage in SwiftUI now supports automatic HTTP-based image caching.

The release also includes support for the PlayStation Access controller on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and adds new APIs across several frameworks, including StoreKit, MetricKit, RealityKit, and VideoToolbox.

Apple lists numerous known issues that remain in Beta 3. Some of the more noticeable ones include:

  • Portrait mode blur may not render correctly in the Camera app.
  • Some users may be unable to stop alarms from the Lock Screen without unlocking the device.
  • Safari’s tab bar may disappear until the app is restarted.
  • Siri may respond slowly in CarPlay or fail to complete certain requests.
  • GIFs and pasted images in Messages may appear at the wrong size.
  • Devices may occasionally freeze or restart while idle.

Apple also announced that AirPort Utility has been removed from the App Store for new downloads. Users who previously downloaded the app can still re-download it, although Apple says its functionality on iOS 27 and later is not guaranteed.

iOS 27 Beta 3 is currently available to registered developers for testing. Apple advises developers to test their apps against the latest SDK and review the updated APIs and known issues before release.
