Apple appears to be gearing up for some significant changes to its popular AirPods lineup, with reports suggesting that a more affordable option could be on the horizon.

According to analyst Jeff Pu, Apple is looking to introduce a new model at a lower price point, possibly making it easier for more people to access the AirPods experience. Production for this model is expected to involve a Foxconn subsidiary, with manufacturing set to ramp up at a factory in India later this year.

These rumors align with earlier forecasts from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who hinted at the arrival of two updated versions of the standard AirPods by September or October.

These models are rumored to be codenamed B768E and B768M, with one potentially being an ‘entry’ level and the other a ‘mid-tier’ option.

Gurman suggested that these refreshed models will come with design enhancements aimed at improving fit and sound quality, along with the inclusion of a USB-C-enabled charging case.

The higher-end version may also boast features such as active noise cancellation and a speaker in the charging case to aid in locating misplaced AirPods.

While it remains unclear whether Pu’s budget-focused model aligns precisely with Gurman’s predictions, the addition of a more affordable option to Apple’s audio lineup seems plausible.

Will the new affordable AirPods bring the iconic Apple audio experience to even more users?
