With the launch of the new iPhone 18 Pro Series and iPhone Duo, Apple has introduced the A20 Pro, its new chip.
The A20 Pro uses a new architecture based on a 2nm process. It features a six-core CPU with two performance cores and four efficiency cores. Apple says the new performance cores are up to 20% faster than the previous generation.
The chip also has a seven-core GPU, which Apple says delivers up to 40% higher performance. It includes improvements for graphics rendering, gaming, and on-device AI.

For AI workloads, the A20 Pro adds a second Neural Engine, bringing the total to 32 cores. According to Apple, this provides twice the compute power for running AI models directly on the iPhone.

The chip also has 50% more memory bandwidth than the previous generation. Apple redesigned its chip packaging by placing the silicon and memory side by side, allowing the chip to connect more directly to the vapor chamber for improved heat management.
The iPhone 18 Pro also gets a new vapor chamber with three times the surface area of the one used in the iPhone 17 Pro. According to Apple, the new thermal system enables up to 40% higher sustained performance compared with the previous generation.
Apple is also using the A20 Pro’s efficiency improvements to extend battery life. The iPhone 18 Pro is rated for up to 36 hours of video playback on eSIM-only models, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can reach up to 45 hours.
